As somewhat of a picky eater, I was initially very nervous about the aspect of going to a country where I knew nothing about the food. However, with most things I was pleasantly surprised. Meals consist of a lot of smoked meats and cheeses (usually cheese or goat.) In the more traditional villages food is taken directly from farm to table as most people have their own livestock and crops. All of the homemade traditional food I tried was wonderful. The restaurants were somewhat hit or miss because I couldn't always read the menu so I wasn't always sure what I'd be getting. An interesting fact: In Romania meals are very intimate and lengthly, sometimes lasting 3-4 hours due to conversation and sharing their specialty homemade liquor. The picture to the right was my favorite Romanian dish, a delicious homemade soup. Pictured below is another one of my favorites, Romanian shortbread cookies. I could eat plates and plates of these !
